Jay worked with the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) starting in 2000 as a sub-contractor and subsequently became a staff member in May of 2001.  He was the Managing Director of FAIA Member Services, Inc., the Association’s for-profit subsidiary.  In that capacity, Jay wrote and edited the study manuals for both the FL Agent and FL Adjuster licensing exams while also serving on the Exam Review Committee.

In 2012 Jay became the VP of Sales and Agency Relations for UPC Insurance Company based in St. Petersburg, FL.  Prior to stepping down from that position, he was instrumental in taking the company from single-state model to a multi-state organization currently writing in nine states and licensed in 18.

Jay has been teaching formal insurance classes since January, 2000.  He began teaching the Florida 200-hour pre-licensing class.  While with FAIA/FMS, he taught numerous technical insurance classes.  In addition, Jay is a highly respected authority on agency E&O loss control.  During his term at FAIA/FMS he served on IIABA’s Loss Control Working Group for a number of years and was a member of the Professional Liability Committee for IIABA that oversees the national Big I E&O programs when he left FAIA in 2009.  His experience on the agency, association, and company sides gives him a uniquely rounded perspective on the insurance industry.
